Job Assignment:         Area/Field Supervisor (Exempt)
 
Reports to:                  District Manager or Regional Manager
 
General Position Description:
 
Provides leadership and management oversight to locators and Lead Technicians to create accountability for safety, quality, productivity, and on-time performance. 
 
Essential Responsibilities:
 
1.                  Monitors safety in the field by holding monthly safety meetings with crew, attending quarterly safety meetings with management and ensuring all Locators hold safety as the first priority in all facets of our business. Reviews safety accidents, personal injuries, illnesses and absences and recommends ways to improve safe work performance and attendance.
2.                  Provides Locators continual feedback on their locating skills by establishing and setting goals through QC reports, ride-a-longs, and on-site training. 
3.                  Reviews Locators’ daily performances with District Manager, Lead Technicians/Group Leaders, and/or Locators.
4.                  Reviews and documents performance appraisals and disciplinary actions taken with Lead Technicians/Group Leaders and/or Locators.
5.                  Locates in the field during times of heavy workload. 
6.                  Targets productivity goals by monitoring locates per hour, proper allocation of work distributed, and maintenance of operating equipment.
7.                  Monitors overtime; works to reduce overtime to the minimum optimal amount necessary. 
8.                  Ensures that on-time performance (OTP) is always at 100%. If OTP ever falls short of 100%, immediately takes action to implement change and correct the oversight.
9.                  Complies with and supports the policies and procedures of the company, while acting as a liaison between production and management. Ensures effective communication with Locators and upper management.
10.              Assists by performing District Manager responsibilities when taking an active role in the recruitment, training, discipline, termination, and retention of employees.
11.              Completes damage reports and investigations and forwards suggestions to the Claims Department for their consideration, and to the Training Department for any necessary follow up training. 
12.              Accurately and timely completes necessary administrative work including all necessary paperwork and other administrative tasks.
13.              Exhibits regular and punctual attendance.
14.              Performs other duties as assigned.
 
 
Essential Physical Qualifications:
 
1.                  Ability to walk long distances over all types of terrain including climbing, twisting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 75 pounds on a periodic basis.
2.                  Ability to accurately distinguish between different colors.
3.                  Ability to work successfully under demanding schedules and stressful conditions.
4.                  Ability to operate a motorized vehicle in a legal, safe and efficient manner including attention to vehicle maintenance or safety issues as required by the company.
5.                  Ability to remain drug free and pass random drug tests.
 
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
 
1.                  Ability to concentrate for extended periods and to accurately handle extensive detail while performing assigned locating and necessary administrative functions.
2.                  Ability to work under demanding schedules and stressful conditions
3.                  Ability to motivate and lead a crew to accomplish common goals.
4.                  Ability to contribute suggestions for improving customer service and/or company policies.
5.                  Effective interpersonal relationship skills.
6.                  Good verbal and written communication skills.
7.                  Ability to use office equipment such as fax machines, laptop computers, etc
 
Education & Experience:
 
1.                  High School Diploma or GED.
2.                  One year previous locating, utility, construction or construction-related experience including the ability to accurately read blue prints and building plans required.
3.                  Previous supervisory experience preferred.
 
Other:
 
1.      Valid motor vehicle license with an acceptable driving record.
2.      Availability for occasional on-call, 24-hour/7-day a week duties including some mandatory overtime and weekend and holiday work, depending upon customer needs.
3.      Travel may be required, including overnight stays and out-of-town assignments/training.
